BB Cream vs CC Cream

Even though we are now in September and nearing the colder months, it is still blazing hot during the day here in the DFW area. Most days I do not have the urge to wake up an extra 30 minutes early to achieve a “beat face”. Wearing a full face of make up on a hot, sunny day is all about strategy. As long as you keep a few essentials in your purse, you’re good to go. But what if you’re just not feeling it that day? On days like these I turn to my tinted moisturizer!

Tinted moisturizer, also known as BB (beauty balm) cream and CC (complexion corrector) cream, is a great go-to when you don’t feel like applying a face full of make-up. BB cream and CC cream can be used when you want to achieve that fresh face look. They enhance the skin and adjust to your skin tone. These creams do not come in a wide variety of colors from any brand, but if you buy a shade that’s a bit lighter or darker than your skin tone it should still adjust. BB cream is good for those who may not wear makeup that often, if at all. The look that it gives you after applying is great, but it does not give a great range of coverage. This means that all blemishes and skin imperfections will not be fully covered. If this is what you’re going for your best bet may be using a CC cream. CC cream gives more coverage than BB cream because it is made to conceal blemishes and imperfections.

BB creams and CC creams are great, but there a few things to watch out for when wearing them. The main thing is that after a while it leaves the face a bit oily. Now, after realizing this I experimented by using a setting spray after applying my BB cream. The setting spray did make a difference. As you know, I use the Elf Makeup Mist and Set. My skin was not near as oily as it was when I wore the BB cream alone. Also, don’t get upset if you notice it does not give you the coverage you are looking for. Coverage is not promised! If after one application you do not achieve your desired coverage, you can add a bit more. I wouldn’t recommend applying more than twice. If so, you might as well wear a lightweight foundation and achieve coverage with just one application.

In my everyday life as a student, a full face of makeup is not necessary. I keep it simple unless it’s for a special occasion. Even if I do wear minimal make up, I always start my application with a BB cream. I use the Maybelline Dream Fresh BB Cream. This formula is an “8-in-1 Beauty Balm Skin Perfector”. It also has an SPF of 30 so it does protect your skin from the sun. The shade that I use is the Deep Sheer Tint and I bought it at Target for a little over $6. I do not use CC Cream but some good drugstore brands are Covergirl (Queen Collection for my fellow women of color), Maybelline and L’Oreal. These brands can be found at Walmart, Target, Walgreens, CVS and Ulta. Higher end brands like Becca and Too Faced have great CC creams as well. These brands can be found at Sephora, Ulta and their respective websites.
