Long hours of wear along with the summer heat can take a toll on your makeup. Here are the products you need to make sure your face is flawless all day.
For starters, you need to apply a good primer before you even begin to apply products to your face. Primers allow your makeup to last longer by creating a barrier between your face and the product. It gives the makeup something to adhere to so that it doesn’t come off your face as easily. If you aren’t sure which primer to get based on your skin type or budget, I got you. Click here to read my guide on the best primers, high end and drugstore, for different skin types.
Also, it’s good to prime your lips before actually applying a lipstick. While putting on your foundation, swipe a little across your lips. This will add a base for your lipstick to adhere to. It will enhance color and allow it to last longer. You can also purchase a lipstick primer (Colourpop has a good one) or use a lip balm.
Applying concealer to your eyelids before you apply eyeshadow not only gives you a better color payoff, but it helps to reduce oil secretion. Just apply the concealer and set it with powder and you’re good to go! For this, a cream concealer would work better than a liquid based. I use the NYX Conceal Correct Contour palette in deep. They have the best consistency and have multiple shades for different uses. The LA Girl Pro concealers are also popular. They have a wide variety of shades and are super affordable.
I know you’re thinking this may be weird to mention, but some people don’t use setting powder. I’m not talking about translucent powder I mean actual setting powder that’s the same color of your skin. This adds an extra layer of product over all the work you just finished and it also makes a huge difference in your overall look.
Translucent powders like Laura Mercier, Sacha powders, Airspun and Ben Nye also do the same thing. While I was in Florida for vacation of course it was hot everyday and of course I wore makeup. To make sure it would last I actually used two powders to set my highlight instead of one. I used the Sacha Buttercup powder first, then the Laura Mercier translucent powder. It really worked! Of course I was sweaty by the end of the day because I barely paid much attention to my face, but my makeup didn’t budge.
If you still do not use setting spray and you’re wondering why your makeup isn’t lasting all day . . .GIRL. Don’t play yourself! Setting spray makes a huge difference in your makeup lasting and also the overall finish of your look. It literally sets the makeup in place so it doesn’t budge. Some good ones are Hard Candy, Maybelline Mist and Fix, Elf and of course my all time favorite the Urban Decay All Nighter. Urban Decay also makes one for oily skin, Urban Decay De-Slick, if you prefer that.
If you do experience oiliness throughout the day, then blotting papers should be your best friend. People like to use napkins instead but napkins remove your makeup along with the oil. The blotting papers just remove the oil while your makeup stays in place. I use the Clean & Clear Oil Absorbing Sheets. They come in the perfect little travel size. If you feel like you need to apply powder after using one, do so at your discretion.
So it’s that simple. It may seem like a lot but taking the proper measures will make a HUGE difference. Just try it and tell me how it worked out for you! Until next time!
